About SoS

School of Sciences (SoS) is an exclusive postgraduate & research center of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). SoS has three departments in the general field of Life Sciences viz., Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology and also houses the department of Physics.

The center comprises 25 faculty members including Professor of Eminence, Adjunct Professors, Doctorates and M.Phil. degree holders with a multidisciplinary skill set encompassing different vistas of science with an average experience of 10-15 years supported by a team of Non-teaching staff and laboratory assistants.

SoS faculties have active research collaborations with distinguished scientists in India and abroad from renowned institutions such as Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Chennai, India), Ohio State University (Columbus, USA), Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona, USA), Western University (London, Canada), University of Colombo (Colombo, Sri Lanka) etc.

It has excellent state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities to support student’s studies. The facilities include well equipped laboratories, IT resources and library.

The center presently has oriented its research in the areas of Life Sciences that includes Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Biofuels, Industrial, Agricultural and Environmental Microbiology, Mycology, Enzymology, Bioplastics, Biomedical Physics, Plant Metabolomics, Phytochemistry, Toxinology, Oxidative Stress Biology, Stem Cells etc. Application of various bioinformatics tools for rational drug development from herbal sources against tuberculosis and swine flu has been the main research focus of the dry lab research. The wet lab research of the center includes standardization of conditions for production of industrial enzymes, biodegradable plastics and secondary metabolites from fungi.

The department of Physics has active research programs in the field of atomic and molecular physics, astrophysics, nuclear and particle physics, material science, electronic devices, condensed matter physics and nanoscience. In addition, innovative research programs in the field of medical biophysics, radiation science and cancer biology are also being undertaken.
